Antoniadi, E M
- Italian astronomer best known for planetary observations in the early part the 20th century. He is remembered especially for observations of Mars which undermined the idea of artificial Martian canals. A brilliant observer, he could not see canals and promoted the idea that the supposed canals were optical illusions caused by the observer’s tendency, especially if the will was present, to see isolated details as lines and other extended features.
