breakdown voltage
  • The voltage at which a disruptive electrical discharge occurs through an insulator, dielectric, or other material separating circuits. Also called puncture voltage.
  • The voltage at which a disruptive electrical discharge between the electrodes of an electron tube occurs.
  • The voltage at which a disruptive electrical discharge occurs in a gas. Also called sparking voltage, or spark voltage.
  • In a semiconductor, the voltage at which avalanche breakdown occurs. Also called Zener voltage (2).
