cavity resonator
  • An enclosure which is able to maintain an oscillating electromagnetic field when suitably excited. The geometry of the cavity determines the resonant frequency. Used, for instance, in lasers, klystrons, or magnetrons, or as a filter. Also known by various other names, including cavity (2), resonant cavity, resonant chamber, resonating cavity, microwave cavity, microwave resonance cavity, waveguide resonator, and rhumbatron.
