coaxial cable
  • A concentric two-conductor transmission line in which the center conductor is surrounded by a dielectric, which is surrounded by the second conductor, which in turn is surrounded by the protective jacket. The center conductor is also known as inner conductor, while the other is known as the outer conductor. Such cables produce almost no external fields, nor are they too susceptible to them. This makes them well-suited for a variety of applications, including their use in transmitting cable TV, linking computer networks, and for various radio applications. Also called coax, coax cable, coaxial line, coax line, coaxial transmission line, concentric cable, concentric line, or cable (3).
