conservation of energy
- noun the process of making consumption of energy more efficient, preventing loss or waste of energy, e.g. by the loss of heat from buildings
- A law which states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed in an isolated system, but that it can be changed from one form to another. For instance, kinetic energy being transformed into potential energy, while the total energy in the system remains constant. Also called law of energy conservation.
