continuous-wave radar
  • A radar system in which RF energy is transmitted continuously. A small proportion of this energy is reflected back by the scanned object, and is received by a separate antenna. Moving targets are detected using the Doppler effect. This contrasts with a pulsed radar, in which RF energy is emitted in pulses. Its abbreviation is CW radar. Also called continuous wave Doppler radar.
