dead time
  • The time interval that elapses between a change in an input, and the response to said signal. Used especially in the context of control systems.
  • The time interval after a signal or event, during which a device, piece of equipment, or system is unable to respond to additional signals or events. During this time, for instance, a radiation counter can not register ionizing radiation. Also called insensitive time, or recovery time (3).
  • A time interval intentionally inserted between events. Used, for instance, to prevent the overlap of certain events.
