digital micromirror device
  • A chip fitted with arrays of micromirrors which are used to produce sharp images on a screen utilized in a room with ordinary lighting. Such a chip may have millions of movable mirrors, each representing a pixel on the screen, with each mirror tilting one way for a lit pixel, and the other way for an unlit pixel. Such devices are controlled by a digital light processor, and may be used, or instance, in projection-screen TVs, or in presentation projectors. Its abbreviation is DMD.
