digital watermark
  • Patterns of bits which are incorporated into digital intellectual property, such as voice, video, and/or text, to identify its source. The bits contain information such as the copyright holder, or its intended area of distribution. While ordinary watermarks are usually intended to be visible, digital watermarks are designed to be imperceptible. Such patterns, for instance, must be encoded into a CD or DVD without affecting sounds or images. Also called watermark.
