directivity factor
  • A quantification of the directivity (1), or directivity (2) of an antenna or transducer.
  • For a sound-producing transducer, and at a given frequency, the ratio of the square of the radiated sound intensity at a remote point on the principal axis of said transducer, to the average sound intensity for all directions at the same distance of said point.
  • For a sound-receiving transducer, and at a given frequency, the ratio of the square of the voltage produced in response to the incident acoustic waves parallel to the principal axis of said transducer, to the mean-square voltage that would be produced in a completely diffused sound field of the same frequency and mean-square sound pressure.
