discrete multitone
  • Its abbreviation is DMT. A DSL modulation technique in which the total bandwidth is distributed over a large number of subchannels, which maximizes data transfer. The available frequency interval is usually divided into 256 quadrature amplitude modulated subchannels, each with a 4.3125 kHz bandwidth. Any subchannel which is can not transmit data is not used, while the rest are optimized for modulation. Also called discrete multitone modulation.
