electric bridge
  • An electric circuit, network, or instrument that has four or more branches, or arms, each with a component such as a resistor or capacitor. It also has a current source and a null detector, and when such a bridge is balanced, its output is zero. An electric bridge allows for an unknown component replacing one of the branches to be accurately measured, as it can be compared to known values. Its characteristic shape is that of a diamond. Also called electrical bridge, or bridge.
