- A phototube incorporating one or more electron mirrors, or dynodes. Electrons emitted from its photocathode are reflected by the dynodes, each producing more and more electrons. Depending on the number of dynodes, the amplification factor may be in the millions. Also called electron multiplier tube (2), multiplier phototube, photomultiplier tube, or photomultiplier.
