Faraday cage
  • An enclosure which blocks the effects of an electric field, while allowing free passage to magnetic fields. A Faraday cage usually consists of a network of parallel wires which provides a low-resistance path to ground. Such a network, for instance, may be incorporated into special plastic bags, providing safer storage and handling of circuit boards en route to being installed. Such a bag does not have to be grounded. Also called Faraday shield, Faraday shielding (1), Faraday screen, Faraday electrostatic shield, or shielded room.
