  • The temperature at which a liquid and a solid of the same substance are at equilibrium with each other. Each pure substance has a specific freezing point, for a given surrounding pressure. For example, at a pressure of 1 atmosphere, the freezing point of water is 0 °C. Also called melting point (1).
