frequency-hopping spread spectrum
- A form of spread spectrum modulation in which the frequency of the carrier hops among multiple frequencies at a rate determined by a specific code or algorithm. For proper communication, the intended receiver must hop in synchronism with the transmitter. When synchronized, the signal is as clear as if it were on a single logical channel. Otherwise, it appears as indecipherable. Its abbreviation is FHSS.
