frequency-shift keying
  • A form of frequency modulation in which the modulating wave shifts the output frequency between fixed values. switching between these values provides the keying. May be used, for instance, by modems transmitting over telephone lines, by representing the 0 with a lower frequency, and a 1 with a higher frequency. Its abbreviation is FSK. Also called frequency shift modulation, or digital frequency modulation.
