• An effect observed near the outer edges of the parallel metal plates of a capacitor, in which there is an outward bulging of the lines of force. This effect must be taken into consideration in order to correctly compute the capacitance. Alternatively, a guard ring may be used to eliminate this effect. Also called edge effect.
  • In a color TV receiver, extraneous colors occurring at the boundaries between zones with different colors, or along the edges of objects. Also called color edging, or edging.
