ground plane
  • An artificial radio frequency ground consisting of an arrangement of wires, rods, or other conductors, which is located at the base of a vertical antenna. Such an arrangement may be above or below the ground, and serves to receive and return radiated energy.
  • A sheet, plate, or other conductive surface at ground potential which serves as a common reference point for circuit returns and electric potentials. Used, for instance, in circuit boards.
