- The use of a nonferrous metal or alloy to fill the spaces between two metals which are to be joined at a high temperature. The filler metal must have a lower melting point than the metals to be joined. It is similar to soldering, but the term hard-soldering is used when the temperature exceeds an arbitrary value such as 425 °C. More commonly known as brazing. Also called hard solder (3).
