Heaviside layer
  • A layer of the ionosphere whose effect is felt mostly during daylight hours, and which is contained in the E-region. It extends approximately from 90 to 130 kilometers above the surface of the earth, and is between the D and F layers. It reflects high to very high frequency radio waves. Also called Heaviside-Kennelly layer, E-layer, or Kennelly-Heaviside layer.
