  • A component, device, or piece of equipment which can be removed from or added to a system which is in operation at that moment. Usually utilized to refer to the ability to remove and/or add components or peripherals to a computer system which is running at the time, and whose operating system automatically recognizes any changes. USBs, for instance, support hot swapping. Also called hot pluggable.
