International Ultraviolet Explorer
  • Very successful astronomy satellite run by NASA, ESA and the UK’s particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council. Launched in 1978 and still in use in 1995, IUE has examined a wide range of hot stars and other objects in our own galaxy, as well as distant active galaxies and other objects such as Halley’s Comet during its 1986 visit.
