- A transducer which converts electrical energy into sound energy, which is then radiated outward to the surrounding medium. The diaphragm, which is the vibrating membrane of a loudspeaker, may be composed of any of various materials, including paper, fiber, plastic, silk, metal, or it may be a piezoelectric crystal. A loudspeaker may incorporate multiple specialized drivers, including sub-woofers, woofers, midranges, tweeters, and supertweeters, to better address various frequency ranges. Loudspeakers provide sound for devices such as TVs, audio systems, computers, DVDs, telephones, and so on. Also called speaker, or driver (4).
