Milankovitch Cycle
  • Variation in time of the amount of solar radiation arriving at the Earth and its distribution through the year, caused by the precession of the equinoxes, the varying eccentricity of the Earth’s orbit, and the changing angle of the Earth’s equator to the ecliptic. Milutin Milankovitch (1879–1958) published his work in 1930 and he and his followers have tried to explain Ice Ages in terms of the Milankovitvch Cycles, including most prominently cycles of 21,000 and 40,000 years associated respectively with the precession of the equinoxes and the inclination of the Earth’s axis.
