nickel cadmium cell
  • A rechargeable cell in which the anode is cadmium metal, the cathode is nickel hydroxide, and in which the electrolyte is alkaline, usually potassium hydroxide. Each cell is rated at about 1.2 volts, and batteries made of such cells are widely used portable devices including cell phones, portable computers, and music players. Such cells usually suffer from memory effect. Its abbreviation is NiCd cell, or Nicad cell. Also called nickel cadmium battery (2).
