- The presence of an odd number of ones or zeroes within a group of bits.
- An error-detection procedure which verifies if there is odd parity (1). For each byte transmitted, an additional bit is added, which can be a 0 or 1, so that all bytes are odd. At the receiving location, the parity is checked, to be sure it is odd. If it is, the transmission has passed this test of data integrity. Also used for data storage. Also called odd parity check.
