oscillator
  • A circuit, device, piece of equipment, object, or system which produces and/or maintains oscillation (1).
  • A circuit or device which produces the oscillation (1) of an electrical quantity, such as an alternating or pulsating current or voltage. Examples include crystal oscillators, klystrons, magnetrons, and Colpitts oscillators. Most oscillators utilize positive or negative feedback, and the frequency of their output may be fixed or variable. When referring to a circuit, also called oscillator circuit.
  • A circuit or nonrotating device which converts a DC input into a periodically varying electrical quantity.
