oversampling

- Sampling above the
__Nyquist rate__, or other minimum sampling frequency, for a given signal. The higher the sampling rate, the more accurate the conversion, and some devices feature rates which are hundreds of times the minimum necessary. For example, if the Nyquist__rate__for a given signal is 44.1 kHz, then__2X__oversampling means that the signal is sampled at 88.2 kHz. In this case__8X__over-sampling would yield a rate of 352.__8__kHz, and so on. Also spelled over-sampling.
