• Abbreviation of personal digital assistant. A handheld computer which stores information and performs functions which help organize an individual. Such a device may include a telephone, email, and address book, an appointment scheduler, a notepad, and so on. PDAs are usually enabled for Internet access, and when so equipped can send and retrieve email, in addition to performing limited browsing functions. Such devices usually utilize a stylus for menu selections, and may or may not have a small keyboard. When no keyboard is present, the stylus may be used to enter characters on its touch screen display. PDAs have specialized software, and communicate with other computers via a cable or wirelessly.
