• A photosensitive material which is applied to a substrate during photolithography, to enable a desired pattern to be imaged. A properly exposed and developed photoresist masks portions of the substrate with extremely high precision. A photoresist that polymerizes or otherwise turns harder when exposed to light is a negative photoresist, while a positive photoresist depolymerizes or otherwise turns softer when exposed to light. Also spelled photoresist.
