Among the elements, its melting point is exceeded only by carbon and tungsten, and its density is greater than all but iridium, osmium, and platinum. It has over 30 known isotopes, of which one is stable. It has various applications in electronics, including its use in filaments, contacts, high-temperature thermocouples, flashbulbs, electroplating, semiconductors, and superconductors.
