silicon germanium
  • A heterostructure consisting of silicon and germanium. Such a semiconductor material can be used to make transistors that, in comparison to silicon transistors, provide improved power and operating frequency capabilities, in addition to greater immunity to noise. Used, for instance, in RF devices such as radars, GPS receivers, cell phones, and analog to digital converters. Also called silicon-germanium heterostructure.
