- The time interval during which something is stored, or the time required to effect such storage.
- The time interval during which a storage medium, such as RAM, a hard disk, a smart card, or an optical disc, can reliably retain data. Also called retention time.
- For a semiconductor junction, such as a diode, the time during which current reverses and stays at a constant level, when bias is switched from forward to reverse.
- The time that elapses for a given amount of decay to occur. For example, the time it takes a static charge to be reduced to a given percentage of its peak charge. Also called decay time (1), or fall time.
