thick film
  • A technology utilized to apply upon a substrate a film which is ten micrometers or greater in thickness, although the defined thickness varies. Thick-film technology is usually employed to form passive circuit components and interconnections, and involves applying a liquid, solid, or paste coating through a screen or mask with the desired patterns upon a ceramic or glass substrate, followed by heating. Used, for instance, in the formation of hybrid ICs. This contrasts with thin film (1), which can involve a thicknesses of less than 0.1 micrometer. Also called thick-film technology.
