time-division multiple access
  • A multiplexing method which divides a high-speed channel into time slots, each assigned to different signals. Each packet or frame within its channel is uniquely timed, increasing throughput while avoiding collisions. This technology is used, for instance, in satellite systems, and in digital cellular telephone networks, such as GSM and digital AMPS. Its abbreviation is TDMA.
